Frequently asked questions

What areas do you cover for dog walking?

Barkers and Bouncers is a dog walking business and pet service based in Micklefield, Leeds. The areas we cover for walking are Micklefield, Garforth, Aberford, Barwick in Elmet, Sherburn, South Milford and Kippax.

Will I meet my new dog walker?

Yes. If you are interested in having your dog walked by us then we will arrange to come and meet you and your dog. We will explain the procedure of collecting and dropping your dog off at home and the service we offer. We will obtain details of your dog and their specific needs. Your house key will be kept secure and away from personal information and no key can be identified to any property. We are DBS checked and are trustworthy people that adore animals.

What will you do in case of an emergency?

We first call you (the client) to discuss the situation and to sort out the best plan of action. If you cannot be reached and medical attention is required, we will take your pet to the vet designated by you or the nearest to our current location. We are trained in animal first aid should any situation arise. The safety of your dog is of the utmost important to us and we treat your dog as if it were our own.

What sort of walk would best suit your dog?

Imagine your dog doesn't cope in a stressful situation and starts to exhibit an undesired behaviour. Dogs are animals and it is a fact of life that they do not have a logical brain. As your dog walker we would never break the trust that they have with us. We are huge believers in positive reinforcement for dogs. Dogs will never be shouted at or feel vulnerable in our care. We treat peoples pets as if they were our own. We understand that many dogs are sociable and some are not and will require walks without other hounds. We are able to tailor walks to suit your dogs needs. Our experience of dealing with rescue dogs enables us to provide your dog with a fabulous walk suited to it's temperament.

What prompted you to be a dog walker?

The love of all animals. Victoria is a passionate animal lover and runs a dog rescue charity. The priority and welfare of all pets is paramount. Walking, enrichment and stimulation on all dog walks is her focus whether it be charity rescue dogs or peoples pets.

Does your dog walker have knowledge of animal behaviour?

Yes. Owning a dog and working with dogs are two very different things. We are used to dealing with dogs with complex needs if necessary and have good understanding of dog behaviour in order to ensure that your dog is happy, safe and comfortable at all times. We have hands on experience and have worked with rescue dogs for many years. Dogs and their walkers come into contact with different situations all the time. This will vary from interacting with other people and other dogs on walks, mixing your dog with others, travelling in their walker's vehicle, having your dog walker inside your home, exploring new environments. Due to extensive knowledge of working with rescue dogs we are often able to understand how your dog is feeling and what your dog is thinking. Being able to understand dog behaviour ensures that your dog is never forced into a situation that they feel uncomfortable with and we will always act accordingly. Your dog will always remain our priority.

Do you offer cat sitting services?

Yes we offer cat sitting. This includes a visit to feed your cat, change water bowls and clean cat litter trays. Your cat can be let out if necessary. These visits are often approx half hour visits where your cat will also receive fuss and play time if required. Double daily visits are available consisting of a morning visit and evening visit. When people go on holiday cats often find it more comforting to remain in their own environment in a familiar surrounding instead of a cattery. This is less stressful for many cats. We have experience of cats and own them ourselves. We can deal with timid, feisty, friendly and whatever your feline companion's personality may be. Please ask for more details via email or call us to discuss cat sitting.
